Fred Smith

Fred Smith is founder of The Gathering, which he led for three decades through the end of 2018. He also founded Fourth Partner, a local foundation in Tyler, Tex., that focused on philanthropy and community development in East Texas.

With Bob Buford, Smith founded the Leadership Network, as well, at which he served as president for 12 years.

Smith spent several years as a teacher and administrator at Charlotte Christian School in North Carolina and The Stony Brook School in New York. He is a Navy veteran and a graduate of Denver University and Harvard Divinity School.
